QDMA Achieves 4-Star Rating From Charity Navigator

ATHENS, GA (August 1, 2017) – Based on strong financial health, operational efficiency, and a commitment to accountability and transparency, the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) today achieved a coveted four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent charity evaluator.

Charity Nav image“A four-star rating is our highest possible rating and indicates that your organization adheres to sector best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way,” wrote Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator, in a letter to QDMA CEO Brian Murphy. “Attaining a four-star rating verifies that QDMA exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets QDMA apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness. Approximately only a quarter of rated charities have achieved this distinction!”

QDMA achieved a score of 88.5 on financial considerations, such as the fact that 85.7 percent of the organization’s total expenses are spent on mission delivery and member services, while administrative and fundraising expenses are in the single digits and the liability-to-asset ratio is low. This score, combined with a score of 93 on accountability and transparency, gave QDMA an overall score of 90.48, placing it in the four-star rating category.

Since 2002, using objective analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These Accountability & Transparency metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders.
