PINEVILLE, La. (AP) - The practice of hunters using dogs to chase deer may end or be restricted to a certain number of days in the Kisatchie National Forest.

The Kisatchie is the only public land in Louisiana where hunters may set deer after dogs.

Forest Service spokesman Jim Caldwell says hunters could still use dogs to track rabbits, birds, raccoons and other game. He says those dogs bring few complaints.

But there have been complaints that the deer-chasing dogs often roam private land for days.

Hunters have called a meeting for Feb. 21 in Dry Prong.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is taking public comment on the proposal.
