QDMA Charters Branch in Pacific Northwest
Bogart, Ga. –The Quality Deer Management Association has chartered its first Branch west of the Rockies, in the Spokane, Washington, area. The Inland North West Branch serves the Spokane area, and becomes the first QDMA Branch to serve members in the western U.S.
“I traveled to Washington the week of March 19 to hold seminars on Quality Deer Management and the QDMA,” said QDMA Western Regional Director Chris Blackledge, a Kansan who is expanding the QDMA’s reach throughout the western U.S. “I was amazed at the response I had to QDM.
“As a result of my visit to Washington, I know of at least 10,000 acres of land in the Spokane area that will be managed under QDM guidelines as we move forward,” Blackledge said. “I am also excited to report the chartering of the Inland North West Branch to serve the Spokane area.”
Blackledge said the Branch formation meeting he held in Spokane on March 21 had many positive impacts. “That meeting was one of the most interactive I have ever held,” he said, “with lots of questions and feedback. Everyone who attended showed great interest in promoting QDM and the QDMA, and the Inland North West Branch is a result of their enthusiasm.”
Josh Potter is the first President of the new Branch, which already is planning two educational events and a fundraising banquet later this year. “The most important thing I learned on my visit is that the QDMA and its message excites the people I met in Washington,” Blackledge said. “They are eager to learn more about QDM and the QDMA, and just as eager to begin practicing QDM because they want to enjoy better deer and better deer hunting in their area.”
Founded in 1988, QDMA is a national nonprofit wildlife conservation organization with 45,000 members in all 50 states and several foreign countries. Membership in QDMA is open to anyone interested in better deer and better deer hunting, and committed to ethical hunting, sound deer management and the preservation of the deer-hunting heritage.
