QDMA’s Cape Fear River Branch Brings Home Three Awards
BOGART, Ga. – QDMA’s Cape Fear Branch of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, earned three Awards during the QDMA National Convention last month. Under the leadership of Guy and Judy Gardner, the Cape Fear River Branch is always a top performer in the QDMA Branch network, which boasts over 180 Branches across the United States and Canada. This year the Branch earned the title of Educational Branch of the Year and received the Branch Event of the Year award. Additionally, Brian Padgett, a devoted Branch officer, was named Branch Volunteer of the Year.
“The Cape Fear River Branch has continued its legacy of excellence,” said Danielle Riley, Manager of Branch Development. “Through top-notch classes and events, Branch leaders have educated thousands of people on the principles of QDM. Because Cape Fear volunteers have dedicated themselves to setting the bar high, they have inspired Branches across the country to do the same, and QDMA members everywhere are benefitting,” said Riley.
The Cape Fear River Branch has an unrelenting dedication to education and community service that has resulted in the attainment of the Educational Branch of the Year title for the third year in a row. Throughout the year, the Branch hosted countless educational events, including the “QDM for Kids” program, a Wildlife Expo, and numerous hunter education classes, local field days, and seminars.
In March, the Branch, in collaboration with twenty-five other organizations, hosted the 13th Annual Dixie Deer Classic, which earned the designation of Branch Event of the Year from QDMA. The Branch was involved in every stage of the event—from planning and donating funds to facilitating and hosting several feature attractions for sportsmen, kids, wildlife professionals, and the urban public.
Brian Padgett, Chair of the Education Committee for the Cape Fear River Branch, was named Volunteer of the Year for his dedicated service to QDMA and his community. His accomplishments include the development and management of “QDM for Kids,” a year-long mentored woodsmanship program; the organization of several attractions attended by over 500 children during the Dixie Deer Classic; the launching of “Living with Whitetails,” a free course offering practical deer management techniques; and the administration of official state hunter education classes. The programs that Padgett has spearheaded have made a tremendous impact on the youth and adults in his area, fulfilling his and his Branch’s passion for sparking an interest in hunting and conservation in others.
