Interesting. Is that just a plain old stick attached to rope? If so, that seems like a pretty interesting way to make a scrape in a couple of months . . .

That's interesting. I've got the overwhelming urge to go out and tie up about three of those things right next to each other and see what happens then

I've actually got the perfect spot to try that out and I think I will.

In image 20 I like the buck hiding in the background looking at the buck on the scrape....

Do you just hang the branch? Put anything on it?

Just hang it under a larger tree that has no other branches coming down. It has to be "out of the ordinary" - kinda coming down with nothing else around it.
And no, nothing on it....but deer spit!
Once one licks it, thats all a buck needs to check it out for himself.

If ya put a camera on it, make sure its one that has a good battery life. The wind will sometimes make the branch swing, triggering the cam. Its not uncommon for me to have 75 "blank" pics in one week. If this happens, keep in mind, its not a problem with the cam...its just the wind.
Good Luck.
P.S. - Wear rubber gloves when touching the rope and branch, you will get faster results that way.

Very cool. How high up is the branch the rope is tied to?

I like to make mine on logging roads.
Try to find a tree that has a large branch / limb that reaches over the road.
The type of rope isnt that important, as its purpose is just to have something to attach the stick to. However I use manila rope as it looks natural. 1/2" or 3/8 inch dia.
Simply tie the rope to the brach that over hangs the road.
You want the end of the stick you attach to be about 5' off the ground, so cut the rope a bit higher off the ground than that.
I havent obeserved a prefernce in what type of stick (tree spieces) to attach.
I normally use an oak stick, so it lasts awhile. The stick should be from 1/2" diameter to 1" diameter.
I use 3 nylon ties to attach the stick to the rope.

This rope / stick should have no other branches / brush near it. It should appear to drop from the sky.

If you have no over hanging branches / limbs in an area you want to put one, then I use oak closet rod to "make a branch" I simply Attach the closet rod with heavy screws to a large tree, so that the closet rod extends over the logging road. Then I attach the rope to the closet rod.
I will TRY to remember to take a dam picture this weekend when I am up there. I always forget my camera!

Just curious, is there a meaningful purpose behind attaching it with nylon ties instead of tying a knot?

I think thats just an easy way to attatch the stick...I've had 2 of these out for over a month & will move the camera on it when they quit hitting the mineral site...should be interesting.

I know I cant give you an update because the one rope with the camera on it I had to take down due to the fact my land is being logged. Didnt want the machines to snag it. I have about 8 more, but no camera on those.
