Do deer eat pecans? Reason for asking is because I am in the process of buying a sixty-acre tract that is roughly 70% timber and probably half of the trees are native pecans. Located near Chelsea, Oklahoma.
I'm not sure if deer really utilize pecans or not. I've never seen deer specifically eating pecans, but I know people do. If there's that many pecan tree's, you should start harvesting them.
i posted the exact same question at another forum and a few guys stated that deer do eat pecans. I have never witnesses this. I have 160 acres in Lincoln county and have probably 30 pecan producing trees---even a few paper shell trees. I have never seen a deer feeding under a pecan tree but I've got plenty of squirrels.
I dont know about deer but turkeys stay in an orchard just off the coast from me.
Every fall I see big flocks of them under the pecan orchards.
