My chinkapin oak seedlings(bare root) arrived yesterday from MDC. Got some planted today. Many of them are forked at about 8-10" from ground level. Should I snip one of the forks now or wait til next winter to do it, or should they be left forked?

I always thought the low branching style was the normal growth form form chinquapins, the Alleghany variety especially.

Don't confuse Chinkapin Oak with Allegheny Chinkapin, which is a small chestnut.
I wouldn't prune them, nature should take care of that, and If it doesn't the tree will be fine.

These are not Allegheny's.....they're regular chinkapins.

Got ya, I didn't see "oak" the first time. I'd prune it.
