In order to get a few more pics over my mineral sights, sometimes i will top them off with some buckjam(apple flavor). Recently I had the idea to make my own, so I just filled up the left over bottle of buckjam with water, then added salt, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, and a few apple slices. I let it set for a week or two then poured out. Im not sure how well it will work....what do you guys think?

IDK if that was a joke or not, but I actually did read that on a forum somewhere!! AMAZING what people have tried!

I,ve used molasses. It was in a big bag in the ag. section at Farm & Fleet. You could smell from a long way off.

Great idea, I think most of those products are 99% filler of some kind.

I wonder if kool aid or jello has more bang for the buck?

Jello has lots of extra stuff to make the gelatin, where kool aid is pretty much straight flavor and dye.

Molasses is fine and dandy if you're allowed to bait. We're not, so it's out.

Btw, tree rats at my place wouldn't touch the stuff - that's good to know if you've got issues with them mooching bait.

I put out a molassis block once and kicked it around for 2 years...nothing touched it or did it reduce in size much...smelled like roofing tar after awhile. I finally threw it in a stump hole...i think its still there!

I had put a bag of Sweet 16 horse feed down, which is molasses, cracked corn, and black sunflower seeds. Supposedly deer and fox will flock to the stuff - I saw nothing but rat tracks in the snow and they left the molasses.

That spot is deep in the swamp, so I'm not sure what ever became of it after the thaw. Deer never did find it.
