Give "Forest Plants of the Southeast and Their Wildlife Uses" a look.

For the UP of Michigan I would use the Weeds of the Northeast book that QDMA sells. It has good pictures and descriptions for tons of common weeds.

My wife uses this site a lot. Rather than a book it's a database with lots of pics and info: http://plants.usda.gov/

Google Southern Weed Society. They produce an excellent book on weeds, grasses, shrubs, and vines native to the area. Provides pics, and information on native range, description and what animals forage on the plant.
