After reviewing winter severity conditions, the DNR has removed six management units initially proposed for herd control status in the agency's preliminary recommendations for the 2008 deer hunting season.

According to Jason Fleener, DNR assistant deer specialist, the units are 28, 30, 36, 37,43 and 52 in southwestern Wisconsin. If the changes are approved by the Natural Resources Board, the units will be placed in the regular category.

Deer management units annually are placed in a chronic wasting disease, earn-a-buck, herd control or regular category.
