Hunting Heritage

Hunting is an essential tool for sound deer management and part of our sporting heritage.  However, in many states hunter numbers have declined, and existing hunter recruitment programs are proving only marginally effective.  In response, QDMA developed an innovative youth program called QDMA’s Mentored Hunting Program.  Unlike most other programs which involve a one-time contact with a young person, the QDMA Mentored Hunting Program includes numerous steps to be completed over several weeks or months.  During this period, the mentor and student complete several required stages such as developing woodsmanship skills, hunting small game, hunting deer, and learning how to clean and prepare wild game.  The goal of this program is to produce more deer hunters and better ambassadors for hunting, not simply to take more kids deer hunting.
