Award Nominations

Each year, QDMA honors a number of people and groups for achievements in whitetail conservation and management. We’re looking for the 2014 winners, and we welcome you to make nominations for this year’s Achievement Awards!

Agency of the Year
Agencies that received this award in the past had a record of supporting the philosophy of QDM and the mission of the QDMA. Do you know an agency that practices innovative and progressive deer management techniques? Has it affected positive change in deer management regulations, hunter education, hunter recruitment, and/or involvement in youth hunting? The recipient’s qualities should be reflected in how its professional staff serves its constituents (hunters) and manages its state’s natural resources, particularly the white-tailed deer.


Al Brothers Deer Manager of the Year
This award goes to a talented non-professional deer manager (this person does not have a wildlife degree and their primary employment does not include more than 10 percent deer management responsibilities). The recipient has the reputation (locally, statewide, or nationwide) of being an exemplary manager of white-tailed deer. The recipient has demonstrated the ability to positively affect deer herds, deer habitats and deer hunting on the property or properties under their influence through the application of QDM techniques. The recipient is a QDMA member and embraces the mission of the QDMA. 


Al Brothers Professional Deer Manager of the Year
This award goes to a deserving professional deer manager (their primary employment includes significant deer management responsibilities, and they have a degree in a nature resource field). The recipient should have a longstanding record of service and/or contributions to QDM, the QDMA and/or the whitetail resource. They should have significant on-the-ground experience and a history of sharing this expertise through seminars, articles, field days, etc. This person has made a significant, identifiable impact on deer and deer hunting through education, research or management on public or private lands. They are a QDMA member and embrace the mission of the QDMA.


Joe Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award
The winner of this award, named after QDMA’s founder, has dedicated his/her life and/or career to wildlife management in general, and deer management in particular. They have made a significant impact in deer management, deer research, deer hunting, or advancing the QDMA. The recipient exemplifies the highest level of ethics and integrity.


Signpost Award: Communicator of the Year
Do you enjoy the work of a talented writer, videographer or outdoor journalist?The winner of the Signpost Award (named after QDMA’s original membership newsletter) demonstrates an outstanding effort to disseminate accurate, sound guidance on deer management, habitat management, and wildlife stewardship that aids or complements QDMA’s pursuit of its mission.The recipient has an established record of journalistic integrity and ethics as well as unquestioned commitment to the betterment of wildlife resources. You may nominate someone based on their cumulative career achievements or on an outstanding individual project, such as a book, article or video.


Wildlife Officer of the Year
Do you know a wildlife law enforcement officer who has the reputation among local hunters as a fair and reasonable enforcer of game laws? The winner of this aware will be endorsed by the agency for which he/she serves and should have a record of working diligently with the QDMA through a local Branch or State Chapter. The recipient has distinguished himself/herself by engaging in activities above and beyond the call of duty, such as hunter education courses, youth and/or physically disabled hunts, educational activities, etc. This person exemplifies sportsmanship and ethics.

How to Make a Nomination
Download, print and complete a nomination form for each person or group you want to nominate.

Individuals/organizations may be nominated in more than one category, but a separate nomination must be submitted for each award. Supplemental material is optional, but no materials will be returned. Individuals/organizations may nominate themselves.


Deadline
Nominations must be received no later than May 15, 2014 for consideration.


Selection Procedure:
The Quality Deer Management Association has appointed a selection committee for the consideration of nominations. The decision of the selection committee will be final.


Announcement and Presentation of the Awards:
The recipients of the aforementioned awards will be recognized at QDMA's 14th Annual National Convention, July 24-27, 2014, in Athens, Georgia.
